Madam Butterfly at Stratford Circus Arts Centre

The original story of Puccini’s Madam Butterfly has been recreated by award-winning OperaUpClose in association with the Belgrade Theatre.

The story is retold from a female, East-Asian perspective and is set in 1980s Japan where traditional culture is clashing with the new digital age. The story explores the relationship between a young Japanese girl and an American naval officer, and the devastating consequences that follow.

The music has been re-orchestrated and will be performed by eight singers and four live musicians, giving this traditional opera a modern twist.

The performance has so far received excellent reviews and will be coming to the Stratford Circus Arts Centre on Tuesday 18th February.
