This July will mark London’s first National Park City Festival, a week-long celebration of the city’s green spaces. From 20th – 28th, there will be a series of events taking place across London.

Throughout the week, the National Theatre will be running a programme of live performances. Some of London’s prettiest rooftop gardens will open up to the general public. Outdoor screenings, guided walks and children’s wildlife clubs will run in locations across the city.

We think the parks in Stratford, London are up there with the best in the city. Here are a few of our favourites, all only a short distance from International Quarter London.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP)

We obviously couldn’t go without mentioning our neighbour – QEOP. With award-winning parkland, running trails, walking trails and Olympic sporting facilities nestled in between – there’s plenty to do.

Take a ride down the UK’s tallest tunnel slide, hunt for wildlife with a guided trail, try out a new sport and once you’ve tired yourself out sit back and feel refreshed at the Timber Lodge Café or The Last Drop.

Victoria Park

Opened to the public in 1845, “the people’s park” is just beyond QEOP in Bethnal Green.

Here you can enjoy a range of open spaces, including open grasslands and the decorative gardens. There are playparks for your little ones, a boating lake, a fishing lake, a skatepark, bandstand and the café  where you can grab a refreshment or two.

Mile End Park

Mile End Park in Tower Hamlets follows Regents Canal from Victoria Park through to the Limehouse Basin.

As well as greenery and gardens, Mile End is one of few East London parks to have an Art Pavilion and an Ecology Pavilion. Here you can host your own event, celebration or visit one of the many exhibitions hosted here throughout the year. There are also a host of things for kids to do nearby. Including the Ragged School Museum, Revolution Karting and the Urban Adventure Base.
