RESTAURANT IN EAST LONDON GIVING ALL DELIVERY PROFITS TO CHARITY
It was reported in MyLondon News on March 25th that Fit Kitchen founder Ama Lodhia and XIX Nineteen have come to an agreement which will keep the majority of its staff, who were otherwise facing possible redundancy, employed at the restaurant which will be rented out by Fit Kitchen for the next six months. The plan for Fit Kitchen is that the delivery service will deliver food to East and Central London within two hours of ordering. Other East London restaurants are also still taking orders through Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
The kitchen will reportedly operate for 10 hours a day, six days a week, from 12pm until 10pm Mondays to Saturdays. As well as delivery, the Fit Kitchen website also features a pick-up option which, while permitted, will allow customers to place their order remotely and drop by for collection. However, with many restaurants already having to strip back this feature, it’s unknown whether this will be able to stay under current government restrictions.
Lodhia was previously named by Shell Livewire as one of the top eight young entrepreneurs in London, and it’s easy to see why. Not only does this partnership potentially save the jobs of an entire workforce while helping keep the restaurant’s proprietors afloat financially, but all proceeds from the orders placed at Fit Kitchen for the next six months are reportedly going to Whitechapel Mission charity, a homeless charity dedicated to helping homeless and marginalised people develop the crucial skills needed to make lasting changes in their education, employment and lifestyle. According to their website, they have so far been incredibly lucky in not having yet had any staff or guests affected by Coronavirus. However, it’s of the utmost importance that they remain active and able to deal with what will surely be increasing numbers of people in need over the coming months.
Co-running the show will be head chef Tobi Kuttig who is quoted saying: “"We all share a common situation and we are all being challenged to adapt to a new lifestyle, which now sees more of us not only working from home but also working out at home.”
Fit Kitchen’s mission statement is to make it simple for people to live fit and healthy lives every day, and they hope to be a beacon of hope in these uncertain times that can show people that taking care of yourself is not only still achievable, but more important than ever.
XIX Nineteen is located near a whole host of other East London restaurants at 369 Stratford High Street, London E15 4QZ.
