Fashion District Festival: A celebration of innovation and sustainability in fashion in IQL Stratford
The launch event takes place on 23rd September at Haugen in The Pavilion, IQL’s newest events and social space. Lee Lapthorne, Creative Director of On|Off - the platform that for almost 20 years has showcased the likes of JW Anderson, Louise Gray, and Gareth Pugh, and much of the UK’s emerging fashion talent at London Fashion Week - will art direct a one-off performance using the stunning façade of the new Pavilion as the backdrop. Along with Spoken Movement founder and choreographer Kwame Asafo-Adjei, Lapthorne and a hand-picked selection of London Fashion Week designers will deliver a spectacle of hip hop, dance, beatbox and wearable art, featuring the designers’ latest show pieces.
The British Council at 2 Redman Place will host social enterprise and business support organisation The Trampery, as they take creators and designers on an exploration of sustainability in manufacturing and materials. These panel talks include representatives from design research studio Post Carbon Lab, green technology company Materra, and Billi London, producers of the world’s first biodegradable tights, and more.
There’s stuff for the kids too. At The Lab E20, Making For Change and Trashion Factory will show 4-10 year olds how to upcycle old clothes to make superhero capes, before the children deliver their own Play Capes fashion show. And if it’s just some shopping you’re looking for, check out the Fashion District Pop Up Shop and Waltham Forest Vintage Market at Westfield.
Whether you’re a fashion grad, start up owner, creator, designer, or just someone with an interest in sustainable fashion, make sure you check out the Fashion District Festival programme. Event tickets will be available on 12 August from https://www.fashion-district.co.uk/festival/
