The Cow, Westfield

Just around the corner from Stratford Cross and Stratford Station is The Cow, Westfield. A great spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner and parties, their Sunday roast is also something to shout about.

They offer premium cuts of meat – chicken, 21-day aged beef rump, pork shoulder – accompanied by Yorkshire puddings, goose fat potatoes and seasonal vegetables. There’s also a vegetarian option of kale and mushroom Wellington.  If you don’t fancy the classic roast, you can tuck into something equally as delicious from their pub classics menu

Darkhorse Restaurant

If you’re looking for a more stylish restaurant vibe rather than a classic pub lunch, look no further than the Darkhorse Restaurant. This classy Northern Italian-inspired restaurant is a popular spot for enjoying fresh, seasonal ingredients.

The majority of their cooking is done in a charcoal oven using sustainable wood, making the flavours in their food like nothing you’ve ever tasted.

Their weekend roast lineup features a whole selection of delicious starters and smaller dishes followed by a chicken, porchetta or lamb steak Sunday roast offer that includes duck fat roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and a glass of house wine.

There is, however, much more to try out on their weekend menu from their chargrilled sirloin of beef to different fish and vegetarian options such as roast Cornish sea trout with piquillo pepper risotto and spinach basil dressing.

The Red Lion Leytonstone

Moving a little further afield and just a few minutes’ walk from Leytonstone underground, this traditional English pub dating from 1870, has a beer garden and cosy pub kitchen. The Red Lion serves craft ale, cocktails and all your favourite tipples, making it a great spot to catch up with friends over a drink or two.

On Sunday you can tuck into a traditional Sunday three course roast, including an extensive array of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options for those with dietary requirements. View their example menu here to get an idea of what you can expect.

Royal Inn on the Park

To the west of Stratford Cross, on the edge of Victoria Park, Royal Inn on the Park is the perfect place for one of the best Sunday roasts in East London using ingredients sourced from the likes of the Ethical Butcher and Shrub Provisions. It’s a popular spot, with outdoor seating that makes you feel you are part of the park in summer, so we recommend booking a table in advance for their famous Sunday roast.

Not only do they offer their classic roasts of chicken, beef, lamb and pork, but they also provide vegan, gluten-free and children’s options too as well as delicious sides such as squash and mushroom stuffing and cauliflower cheese.

The Morgan Arms

If you can’t decide between classic pub or upmarket restaurant, The Morgan Arms is a great compromise. Offering great quality food in an upmarket gastro style pub, this is one of the best places for a Sunday roast in East London.

They offer a choice of four roasts - chicken, beef, porchetta and vegan Wellington – all served with roast potatoes, mixed kale, maple-roasted carrots, mulled red cabbage, Yorkshire pudding (excluding the vegan roast) and gravy.

Bringing the little ones? The Morgan Arms also offers a kid-sized portion of the roast chicken, beef and vegan Wellington.
